Library staff and supporters are essential advocates for communicating the value of libraries. The message “Libraries are Education,” can be shared with stakeholders and elected officials and local communities for any type of library, whether academic, special, hospital, public, or school.

Southeastern is involved in advocacy by making local visits to state legislators, meeting with state legislators on the New York Library Association’s Advocacy Day in Albany, and, staff’s attendance at relevant meetings and events. Southeastern works closely with the New York Library Association (NYLA) in promoting statewide legislative goals for libraries of all types.

Local Visits to State Legislators
Please consider joining Southeastern staff to visit New York State Assembly members and Senators in their district offices.

NYLA's Library Advocacy Day
The goal of Advocacy Day is to show the value of libraries to legislators while in their Albany offices. Library advocates from across New York State visit Albany with a unified message that “libraries are education,” and present a legislative agenda and legislative priorities to elected officials. NYLA provides many of resources and tools for library advocates on their webpage. Please consider joining us for this annual advocacy event, which takes place at the end of February or early March.
