The Cairo Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and tech savvy individual to be its full-time Library Director.
The Cairo Library is a small, community-embedded municipal library in the heart of Greene County, about 35 miles south of the Capital District. New construction of the library was completed in 2012 and currently has one full-time library clerk, four part-time library clerks, and one story-time instructor. The Library also employs numerous local and regional programmers.
The job requires knowledge of the applications of computer technology to library operations as well as the ability to develop and carry out library policies and procedures, the ability to train and supervise staff, and the skills to prepare and administer budgets and grants.
Communication skills, leadership ability, and a willingness to engage with community groups is a vital part of this position.

Starting Salary: $42,000 - $48,000

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s Degree in Librarianship from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or by the NYS Education Department as following acceptable education practices; 0-2 years of professional library experience; eligibility for a NYS Public Librarians’ Professional Certificate.
This is a Civil Service position (Director 1) and will be filled on a provisional basis pending the results of a Civil Service examination to be scheduled at a later date; it requires candidates to be legal residents of Greene, Albany, Columbia, Delaware, Schoharie, or Ulster Counties for at least one month immediately preceding the date of the examination.
